Seventy One is our Root,Twenty-four existences:
"Just as 1971 is the root of our nation, so too is 24 our existence; something we can preserve as part of history," commented Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizens' Committee.
He made this statement during a day-long distribution of leaflets in support of the 'July Proclamation' in Narayanganj city and its various upazilas on Wednesday.
Demanding the documentation of the 24th uprising's proclamation, Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the 'July Memory Foundation', said, "Most importantly, this proclamation must clearly state the punishment that awaits those who ordered the killings, including the murderer Hasina. So many lives were lost under her orders."
This leader of the anti-discrimination student movement commented that Narayanganj Jail Gate was a battlefield during the 24th student movement; where, on Hasina's orders, Chhatra League, Jubo League, and some 'cadres' disguised as police fired upon students and civilians.
He said, "Here, some in uniform, some out of uniform, and some armed or unarmed, attacked innocent students and civilians. The new Bangladesh we aspired for came at the cost of so many lives. This must be documented in a written proclamation."
"This history of our struggle should be a part of history and be documented in writing in the constitution. We all fought together against fascism, we will continue this fight, and our efforts to bring this proclamation before the people will continue."
Sarjis Alam stated that he had spoken to people from all walks of life and they had expressed solidarity with the seven-point demands.
The text presents a political narrative focused on the events of a significant protest movement in Bangladesh, likely in 2024 (given the reference to "24"). The speaker, Sarjis Alam, is advocating for the creation of a formal declaration or "July Proclamation" to document the events, casualties, and goals of the protest.
* Historical significance: The protest is compared to the 1971 Liberation War, emphasizing its importance in shaping Bangladesh's history.
* Demand for justice: The speaker calls for the punishment of those responsible for the violence, particularly targeting the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.
* Documentation: There's a strong emphasis on the need for a written document to preserve the history of the movement and ensure justice for the victims.
* Public support: The speaker claims that there is widespread public support for the July Proclamation and its demands.
* Specific location: Narayanganj is highlighted as a key location for the protests and violence.
Overall, the text is a political statement calling for:
* Recognition of the significance of the 2024 protests.
* Justice for the victims of the violence.
* A formal documentation of the events.
* Continued struggle against what is perceived as a fascist regime.
